Bob McGinn is back at Go Long
The weekly "Ty and Bob Pod" returns. You'll also get more from NFL scouts and, of course, McGinn's 40th annual draft series. Details inside.
Good afternoon!
Thank you again to everyone who is making Go Long part of their life this 2023 NFL season. Here is our plan of attack from earlier today, ICYMI.
As mentioned, the great Bob McGinn will be back with us for a third season. By now, you know his quality of work. There’s only one McGinn. The Pro Football Hall of Fame NFL writer is connected with scouts and personnel men across the NFL… and you never know when he’ll shock the world.
In February, McGinn reported here that the Packers would be moving on from Aaron Rodgers. He was 100 percent correct.
What will McGinn bring to Go Long this season? A lot.
We’ll reunite for another season of the “Ty and Bob Pod.” Full episodes will be accessible to paid subscribers right here at GoLongTD.com each Wednesday morning. As a subscriber, you can also listen within the Go Long Podcast feed on Apple, Spotify and everywhere you get pods. (Via this route, you’ll just need to sign in with the email you use as a subscriber.) The Packers fans who’ve read McGinn for years can expect us to chat about Jordan Love and those 2023 Packers, of course. This is a historic season for the organization.
Also, these days, McGinn resides in Ann Arbor, Mich., so he’ll be watching the resurgent Detroit Lions very, very closely. I imagine we’ll be working in Lions talk.
McGinn’s football brain is unlike any in the country. We’ll have fun, study the film, pay homage to Gordon Lightfoot, discuss the pros/cons of microwaved coffee and see where the conversation takes us.
Come spring time, subscribers will again get McGinn’s remarkably detailed, multi-part NFL Draft series. All 2022 and 2023 stories are archived under the “Draft” tab on the Go Long home page. Rooted in raw conversations with scouts across the NFL, this has always been one of its kind. Last season, you learned all about the quarterbacks’ “S2” scores, the Jalen Carter enigma and why the Clemson Curse “scares the shit” out of scouts. If you want to know how the league sincerely views college prospects — beyond mock-draft fluff — McGinn’s reporting is a must.
Finally, all season, we’ll try something new. If there’s a player in the news we think you’d like to learn more of, McGinn will head down to his personal files, dig up what scouts said about that prospect when he turned pro and empty his notebook for you all. First up this week: Jordan Love.
Thank you again for joining our community, everyone.
Keep an eye out for more Go Long news soon.

Part 6, Edge: Why the Clemson Curse 'scares the shit' out of the NFL
Full scouting reports on Lukas Van Ness, Dalton Kincaid and Deonte Banks. Green Bay rolled the dice on the Iowa edge rusher. Buffalo and New York hope they also found immediate starters.
Scout Extras: Packers go wild for tight ends, Giants steal Jalin Hyatt, Bills add to O-Line. Bob McGinn empties the notebook on these Day 2 prospects. Tucker Kraft, Green Bay's 78th overall pick, drew rave reviews: "He reminded me of Gronkowski. ... He can be the best of the group.”
Scout Extras: Inside Green Bay's gambles. Here's what the personnel men said about Colby Wooden, Sean Clifford and all nine of the Packers' Day 3 draft picks.
The best player in the NFL Draft? It's Bijan Robinson, say NFL scouts. "He’s an absolute freak show.” (Also: Why Devon Witherspoon is their favorite.)
Bob McGinn’s Happy Hour Replay. On Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre, Bart Starr, all things Packers and NFL Draft.
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens give hope to humanity. In the nick of time, too. Baltimore is doing right by its MVP quarterback. Compromise can be a hell of a drug.
The Atlanta Falcons have stepped into the ring. This isn't how teams are supposed to build but the Falcons don't care. With Bijan Robinson, they’ll make their move in the NFC.
Next 'Joe Burrow?' The scouts' take on No. 1 pick Bryce Young. The Carolina Panthers make the Alabama quarterback their top pick.
Brian Gutekunst is the captain now. Uh, "risk?" The risk is convincing yourself an apathetic 39-year-old quarterback finds the fountain of youth.
Why ECU's Keaton Mitchell believes he's the next Chris Johnson
Very happy to have Bob back. Love the in season analysis, of course, but the draft coverage is truly unique.
Can't wait to hear you and Bob breaking down the Pack again.
