I appreciate any and all feedback here in our Go Long world. This is a community. Everything — always — is up for discussion.

As you hopefully have seen by now in the first Brett Favre episode, the Mississippi case is brought up five minutes in. To the extent he can, Favre addressed it. And, as he noted, he’ll share a lot more when the gag order is lifted. Nothing will be glossed over.

Clint put it well here in the comments. Favre — like an infinite number of all-time greats — has many dimensions to him. He’s always been transparent and this show will be transparent. You cannot tell the story of the sport without Brett Favre, and that story isn’t shared through rose-colored glasses. Favre won’t hide. I think you’ll find the first episode incredibly insightful, as well as future shows.

Thanks, gang. You can reach me any time.

Side note: I’ll have our final season preview story live Saturday morning on Kenny Pickett.

I think that is well said. Favre is his own kind of complicated, good and bad, just like most humans. As long as it doesn’t turn into Rodgers on McAfee where they spend the whole time telling him how awesome he is and never push back, I’m all for it.

I don’t know, Tyler. You are so down on AR and rightly so imo. But other than his aw shucks country act, #4 is as bad or worse a person from everything I can tell.

But why him, and why this particular time? It's not like Favre is a current or recently retired player at all relevant to today's NFL. His accolades are well known and he spent plenty of years in the limelight. You had to know the things he's done both recently and in the past and you had to know what the optics of centering a new series around him at this time would be. And it's not like it's a one-off piece, it's an entire series. Unfortunately, it comes across as a cynical attempt to gain more followers. And don't even get me started on how this compares to this blog's treatment of Aaron Rodgers and the insane double standard there.

Here's what Favre's literal biographer--ie, someone who knows him better than any of us and thought he deserved to have a book written about him--had to say about him after the welfare scandal came out:

"I wrote a biography of the man that was largely glowing. Football heroics, overcoming obstacles, practical joker, etc. Yes, it included his grossness, addictions, treatment of women. But it was fairly positive.

Looking at it now, if I’m being brutally honest — I’d advise people not to read it. He’s a bad guy. He doesn’t deserve the icon treatment. He doesn’t deserve acclaim. Image rehabilitation. Warm stories of grid glory. His treatment of Jennifer Sterger was … inexcusable."

Bottom line is this editorial decision is a disappointment and a headscratcher, no way around it. And I guarantee you I'm far from the only one who feels that way. There are so many unknown players in the sport to highlight, so many of which you do a great job of highlighting! Favre simply just isn't one of them.

I'm fan and was very excited to see that Bob McGinn is going to be a contributor again. This news has me disappointed. Podcasting with somebody who has at best a checkered past, has recently been part of a scheme to defraud the State of Mississippi out of a lot of money, and has generally shown no contrition for his bad behavior is not a good look. I'm canceling.

Probably not far behind you.

Having Favre on for a pod is certainly a choice...that I support. Favre resonated during his playing years because of his authenticity, his rawness, his ability to connect with the every day American. He’s flawed. He’s made mistakes. He’s real. Lets hear what he has to say.

Quite a get for Go Long.

As an 8 year old in Wisconsin in 1992, Favre was my sports idol. Between the fake retirements to play for a rival, dick pics, diverting tax payer money from needy people to his kid's volleyball team, and political opinions, he has offered quite an education on the folly of worshipping athletes.

Gotta agree. I’ll stay with Go Long and try listening to the Favre podcast, but I’m just as down on him as a person as Rodgers.

I’m sure this will drum up interest for some but can’t support platforming someone like him, I canceled my sub. All the best!

Why? He’s a trash human. I love your long form articles, but definitely not renewing solely because of this

Choosing to platform Favre at this particular time in his life is.. quite a decision

Wow, the sanctimony here. Unreal.

Love this addition. This is a football site. He's one of the greatest players and on-field personalities in the sport's history. Everyone knows Favre is a flawed person. Lot of football players and pro athletes have seedy pasts. Shoot, NBA players father kids out of wedlock like rabbits. And if people don't like his political opinions, get a life.

Completely agree Adam!

Am I the most fond of him? No. But gee, you would have thought Ty started a pod with O.J. with this level of disappointment.

Having Favre on the pod is certainly a choice. Consider me disappointed.
