Calling all October Mailbag questions!
Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams square off on Monday Night Football this week, so we figured there may be lingering Bears thoughts. Submit anything and everything.
The more I chatted with sources for our three-part series, “House of Dysfunction,” the more this project on the Chicago Bears became a referendum on the general manager than the quarterback selected No. 1 overall.
Ryan Poles has been central to the operation.
Ryan Poles did not seriously consider anyone but Caleb Williams at the top spot.
He laughed at Drake Maye. He didn’t allow the draft room to conduct a serious Caleb or Jayden? debate. Red flags were covered up. The lack of process was jarring — Part II examines everything in full.
A month into the season and Maye, the No. 3 pick, is flashing superstar potential. Daniels is finally healthy. He looked sharp in a win over the Los Angeles Chargers. And while it hasn’t always been pretty, Williams showed signs of life in a blowout win over Dallas and then — after a rough start — led a game-winning drive at Las Vegas.
The No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks will now take the primetime stage on Monday night in Washington. A perfect time to open up the mailbox for your questions.
Fire away with any inquiries on those Bears, our latest longform on the New England Patriots, the Packers’ peculiar start, Bills concerns, Baker Mayfield, anything you’d like. There are many potential topics.
Send your questions to golongtd@substack.com or the comment section below and I’ll get to them this week.
Also, I did get a question recently on audio narration of stories. Inside the Substack app, you can always listen to our stories. It’s a great feature for those on the go:
Look forward to your thoughts.
Full responses will be available to our paid subscribers. Thank you for fueling everything here at Go Long.

PATRIOT REIGN? How Mike Vrabel and Drake Maye can restart a dynasty of their own
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The showers were a pigsty. A scene straight out of a college frat house. His first spring on the job, Mike Vrabel noticed that players were leaving washcloths all over the shower floors and refused to let this slide.
