Podcast: The Stefon Diggs mess, explained
This sure beats the typical minicamp fodder, eh? What a week in Orchard Park, NY.
Good morn!
Hope the locals kept their snowblowers in the garage with this blizzard striking Western New York in the middle of June. You may need to… dig your way out of the driveway. (Apologies. With Father’s Day near, I’ll permit myself one terrible Dad joke.)
First, Sean McDermott says he’s “very concerned” that his star wide receiver, Stefon Diggs, isn’t in the building at mandatory minicamp. Then, it turns out, Diggs is in town. His agent informs everyone that Diggs even met with the coach and GM. The next day, voila! He’s practicing. He’s doing neat handshakes with his quarterback. McDermott bemoans disinformation.
So, what in the hell happened?
And where do the Buffalo Bills go from here?
I discuss this all with co-host Jim Monos on the Go Long Podcast. Monos knows Diggs well from the scouting process and, of course, he hired McDermott back in 2017 as the team’s director of personnel. Together, I think we were able to make sense of this all. Let’s also give it up to Prophet Isaiah. Former Bills wideout Isaiah McKenzie essentially predicted a riff like this on his Happy Hour appearance last month.
You know what you’re getting in Stefon Diggs — an insanely competitive, combustible athlete who’s worth all of this when he’s torching defenses.

One of the early feature stories here at Go Long examined the Diggs Effect in Buffalo:
Diggs may be the single reason why Buffalo will not win a SB, at least while he is on the team. Another selfish, destructive narcissist. Football is a team game.
