I'd love to see Gute draft Joshua Karty on day three--before round 7 because I doubt he'll still be on the board that late. Karty is my top-rated kicker, not third as suggested here. In 2023 he made 23 of 27 FG attempts, supposedly not very good according to the quoted scout here but still a school record, but he was 18 for 18 in 2022, one of which was a 61-yarder against California, the longest FG in Stanford history. Gute is clearly concerned about Carlson, as am I. He is not reliable, even on extra points. The two kickers who are his competition are not impressive. Karty strikes me as someone who is potentially better than all three now on the roster. The Packers should give the guy a chance to show that by drafting him on Saturday. If they want to be serious SB contenders, they simply have to have a first-rate kicker. Right now they don't.
