As a Packers fan, a few things that stood out to me:

- Musgrave had a Wonderlic of 30; Kraft a 27

- Scouts loved Kraft. Almost universally. Shocking to see actually.

- Clifford checked all of Gute's boxes (size, speed, smarts) for a QB

- Wooden is another guy who is a Gute RAS special

- Van Ness is the prototypical high-ceiling prospect he loves taking in the first

It occurs to me that this retread article is really nothing other than a filler. Go Long had five - FIVE - articles on the Bills and Diggs and now this. It’s a bit of a letdown.

Hello, Richard!

To clarify your generalization: We had one column and one podcast on Diggs. The other post was a link to a lively chat thread giving readers the opportunity to share their opinion.

Yes, a Bills feature was important given our series in December. I wanted to follow up with what comes next for this team. That series made some news, you may recall. Deemed it important to pick up where that left off.

Filler? This post here links to all nine parts of Bob’s series last season. Each story is about 7K-8K words that people might’ve missed last year. Packed with scouts/execs’ takes on the prospects. We are merely letting readers know what’s coming next week with Bob’s 40th annual series, a series that takes a great deal of time to report and write.

The goal here is to provide longer features and comprehensive coverage of the sport. Currently, I’m working on three player profiles and an extensive Chicago Bears story.

This isn’t the place for daily takes and slop if that’s what you’re looking for, Richard. We want to make your investment of time and money worthwhile.

Thank you.

I will politely disagree, as for me the McGinn Draft Series alone is worth the price of admission.

An added bonus are the in depth newsmaking/breaking longform pieces that are as well researched and supported and written as anything you’ll find anywhere. I use Twitter for day-to-day news, I GO LONG when I want be informed.

I'm kind of in the same place as you, Richard (and Tyler). I enjoyed (and initially subscribed here for) last year's draft articles, and the podcast with Bob McGinn during the season. Always been a huge McGinn fan. I also really enjoy a feature article here and there, though many are on subjects I don't find relevant to my interests as a Packers fan and so just skip by them.

This truly isn't the place to get regular takes on the game. As a result, this site is very hit and miss for me, and I'm leaning toward not renewing my subscription because of that. Just putting it out there that there might be a middle ground that might attract more subscribers.

Maybe you're getting plenty of paying members Tyler. If so, then you should just do what you're doing, man. But I wonder whether others also might be holding back or leaving because of the lack of more regular content. In particular, I wonder about that Monday morning piece that reflects on the last week. With Peter King retiring, there are fewer voices reacting to Sunday's action. Maybe something to consider adding.

Tyler doesn't need any defense, but just wanted to chime in from another reader's view.

As a reader, I know Tyler is one person. I don't expect daily commentary from him, not with a young family and not with the work he puts into his pieces. Longform writing requires a lot more talking to sources and work than blog or column-type stories (having done both, can confirm this). And he does add plenty of value with the extra coverage of the Packers and Bills (especially for me as a Packer fan), and McGinn's draft series alone is worth a good chunk of the whole year subscription price. (for real: if it was a magazine/book, it would be at least $20-30)

I do enjoy his Monday morning lookback pieces and hope they continue, and commentary pieces are always interesting, but it's not the main focus of this site and that's OK. At the end of the day I think he's been clear about what this site is and is not. Obviously people have to make the call on if that's worth their money.

Well said, Adam.

Much appreciated.

This week, Go Long placed first in the Long Feature category of the APSE's writing contest for our piece on Zay Jones. This is the sort of story that I believe has served as the foundation for our site, and will continue to. A cool honor that's only possible because our readers here choose to hit pause on life and read something deeper: https://apsportseditors.com/tyler-dunne-of-go-long-wins-c-long-feature-in-2023-apse-contest/

Yep. Again, I'm not trying to urge anyone to cut and run. In fact, I hope there are plenty of subscribers so that my measly $50 is just that to Tyler. As I said, I have enjoyed the site now and then. I came to it to read the articles on Rodgers, as I also am a Packers fan. But there just hasn't quite been enough for me, and even Bob is now mostly just listing facts and scouting reports as most of his contribution. I know that's what he did at MJS, but he also wrote other articles with opinions and views, etc. If Bob were writing about Packer games on Monday, I'd definitely pay for that, but you really only get his opinions now in the weekly podcast. For me, I can spend the $50/yr in a place where I'll get more value. But I'll keep an eye on the site and don't rule out coming back if it grows.
