Happy Hour Replay: Stevie Johnson is still handling biz, having fun
Subscribers hang out with the trailblazing wide receiver. Johnson relived moments from his playing days and explained how he's changing lives today.
Good morning, readers.
The happy (in Cincinnati), the sad (in Buffalo), and all fans in-between are all welcomed here at Go Long. A special hello to those who made their way over to our site in the aftermath of Buffalo’s latest playoff loss.
Because, hey, here’s something that could make you smile: Our hangout with Stevie Johnson.
Last Friday night, the former NFL wide receiver was our first Happy Hour guest of 2023. It was a lot of fun. You can watch the full replay above or download the episode at Apple and Spotify.
Johnson got into it all…
How he’s changing lives through his Exposure Academy, a mentorship program in the Sacramento area. “ClubHBHF” is heading to Buffalo this spring, too. (You can watch his full docuseries here.)
The one preseason moment that launched his NFL career. It involved Gibran Hamdan.
How Stevie brought fun and a swagger to a Bills organization that sorely needed it. One tweet spawned the idea of “Bills Mafia,” too. Thanks to Del Reid for hanging out and explaining how this all started.
Three months ago, we had this Q&A with former tight end Lee Smith. His own upbringing was quite harrowing. After growing up with an abusive father, Smith now tells his own kids, “There’s no bigger form of a chicken-shit coward than a bully.” That parenting advice sure paid off. Stevie tells the story of Smith’s son standing up to someone who was bullying his daughter in first grade.
The time Stevie Johnson had enough of Doug Marrone, and spoke up in front of the entire team.
His relationship with Colin Kaepernick in San Francisco.
How does he reconcile the sport’s violence? How does he address it with the kids in his program? Johnson’s answer was quite thoughtful.
Is there a player you want to hang out with? Let’s make it happen.

We opened up the first Happy Hour of 2023 to all of our paid subscribers — thank you to all who made it. In ramping up Happy Hours through the year, these will be exclusive to our VIP members. Those who upgrade to this option will get a copy of “The Blood and Guts: How Tight Ends Save Football,” a sleek new Go Long hoodie and access to all hangouts with NFL players past and present. Be on the lookout for Happy Hours with Dallas Clark, LeRoy Butler and Warren Moon soon.
I’ll also be brainstorming more VIP perks as we truck into the offseason. One idea: Is there a question you have for a specific player during Super Bowl Week in Phoenix? Let me know, and I’ll get an answer.
Hope you all enjoy the replay above.
