Happy Hour: Hang out with Stevie Johnson this Friday
The Buffalo Bills great will spend an hour with Go Long subscribers to talk "HBHF," his glory days and the 2022 Bills. Let's go.
This Friday night, have a drink with a Buffalo Bills great.
The often-imitated, never-duplicated, one-of-one… Stevie Johnson.
In both style and substance, this former NFL wide receiver was in a class of his own. There’s a reason wideouts today like Isaiah Hodgins constantly say how much they admire Johnson. He forced the position itself to evolve. And as we explored in this Q&A with Johnson, these current Buffalo Bills have roots in his unique swagger.
On Friday night at 6 p.m. (EST), Stevie Johnson will join Go Long subscribers for an exclusive Happy Hour on Zoom.
All log-in information is at the bottom of this post.
This feels like the perfect way to kick off our Happy Hour reboot. Starting in February, Happy Hours will be exclusive to our VIP members. You can become a Go Long VIP right here for full Happy Hour access, a Go Long hoodie and a signed copy of “The Blood and Guts: How Tight Ends Save Football.” Our lineup of guests is loading up with Warren Moon, LeRoy Butler, Dallas Clark, Ryan Leaf and Chris Simms all confirmed for future sessions. As always, this is an opportunity for you to ask players anything you want.
Let me know who you are dying to meet and I’ll do everything I can to make it happen.
The No. 1 goal here is to bring you as close to real football as possible via our longform journalism and hangouts like these. Scroll through the Happy Hour archives to get a sense for what to expect if you’d like.
What has Stevie Johnson been up to lately? A ton.
He’s navigating post-NFL life the same way he ran routes — to his own beat. Johnson is the founder of “ClubHBHF,” short for what loved saying as a player: “Handle Biz, Have Fun.” As he detailed in our conversation a year ago, Johnson planned to launch a mentorship program and that’s exactly what he’s done with the ClubHBHF Exposure Academy. His docuseries is worth your time. The very first words Johnson speaks on Episode 1 set the tone: “If I can make it, I swear on everything, you all can make it. I did it different. That’s why I’m here in front of you guys. You don’t have to do it the way they drew it up.”
He houses and trains kids in the Sacramento area with several other football and life coaches providing day-to-day advice.
Not only is Johnson teaching teenagers how to freestyle routes his unique way — he is trying to set them up for life.
Live in Western NY? Johnson is bringing eight-day overnight symposiums to Buffalo, NY for those interested and anyone who wants regular updates to his newsletter can sign up here.
In addition to all of this, Johnson wrote a children’s book with Charles Roberts (a loyal Go Long subscriber!): “There’s Always a Way with Stevie J.”
Hope to see you Friday. Johnson joined subscribers last year and, man, was it fun.
We’ll get into everything Johnson is doing with “HBHF,” hear more stories from his playing days in Buffalo and, of course, dissect these current Bills ahead of the divisional playoff round.
