In recent years, we've seen many teams re-issue previously retired numbers. Some to established stars(J.J. Watt, Peyton Manning), some to 1st round rookies(Malik Nabers, Cam Ward). This begs the question: if the number can be given to someone with a big enough name, was it even justified to be retired in the first place?Should the practice of retiring numbers just be discontinued?
The NFL’s risky, at best, partnership with organized gambling will inevitably destroy the sport. Pete Rozelle was right. It’s just a matter of time. The NFL and the various media outlets taking advertising money from organized gambling think they’re cleverly picking up a turd by the clean end.
Ty - first time long time! I’m fascinated by the Colts’ deal with the Jets from a roster building perspective. The success of QB reclamation projects has brought the mid-tier QB contract back from the dead, and it’s lauded as the new way to massage the cap and prop up a team around a non-elite QB. But Danny Dimes hasn’t yet been “reclaimed.” He’s in the process of securing his next bag on a supremely cheap one year deal. Chris Ballard has now removed any path to replacing him by dealing consecutive first round picks. Doesn’t this invite DJ to stick them up at gunpoint in March? I feel like Indy took the QB sweet spot and turned it into a hostage situation by making this deal before their mid-tier QB was actually locked into mid-tier money, and have consigned themselves to the unspeakable horrors that have befallen the Jags, Cards, Dolphins and others (would love Monos’ take on this on the pod that I am psyched to see back as well)
The Carolina Panthers are playing meaningful football in early November! Getting to see them pull the upset on my first ever visit to Lambeau was quite the treat. I know the focus has been on the Packers losing this game, but this was one of the biggest regular season wins for the Panthers in a long time. Derrick Brown has returned from his injury and tosses dudes around like rag dolls. Rico Dowdle is running wild. Bryce makes plays when it's time. They have some brutal games to end the season, but do you think this team can make the playoffs?
