Good afternoon, Go Long readers!
Coming to you live from Eagan, Minn., at Vikings Headquarters where I don’t think anybody outside of Kevin O’Connell’s immediate family expected the Vikings to be 5-0 one month into this NFL season. The locals haven’t been this jacked up about the Vikings since Randall Cunningham was chucking bombs to a rookie out of Marshall. This team has all the signs of a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Maybe… just maybe… Sam Darnold, Brian Flores ‘n co. can exorcise demons past.
This Sunday, Minnesota faces its stiffest test yet in Dan Campbell’s Detroit Lions.
I’ll have stories rolling out on this team over the coming weeks.
In the meantime, we’re overdue for a good ‘ol fashioned mailbag. Anything on your mind? Drop a comment below or email me at golongtd@substack.com.
Feel free to include your name and town.
Thanks, all.
Which head coach do you think will be the first to get fired out of the NFC East: Nick Sirianni or Mike McCarthy? What do you think will be the breaking point for each franchise to part ways with these coaches? It seemed like after the game Jerry Jones was not considering firing McCarthy at any point during the season. And who do you see as potential replacements for each of these coaches?
Much has been made about GB's success at containing the mobile quarterbacks this season. But this success seems to come at the cost of an outside pass rush. Since mobile quarterbacks are almost becoming the norm, how will defenses adjust long term to get containment and pressure simultaneously?
