I am often perplexed by the Packer’s 1st round choices.

I know people wanted Dejean, but sometimes those guys that are very good at 2 positions aren't great at either.

OL seemed most likely to me because it's a deep class and the Packers usually go with best available and they had a need there.

Time will tell if they should have gone with Barton but if Morgan can stick at tackle or be a great guard, I'm ok with it

Morgan was not considered a first rounder. He has a myriad of flaws. Why choose a player everyone else rated lower than the other available OL candidates? Do the Packers know something the other experts don’t?

Bill Belichick praised the Morgan pick. Here’s what he said: “Morgan is a left tackle all the way. He tore his ACL and then came back and played his senior year at Arizona last year for Jeff Fisch," Belichick said. "Jordan is a high-quality kid, very smart, good pass protector, very athletic. He's a good football player, he is a left tackle. So, I don't think there's any doubt about that. He needs to get a little bit stronger in the lower body, but this is a good football player, he's got a good future. There was no way she was getting out of the First Round. If the Packers hadn’t taken him, some other team would have.”

Belichick did not say Morgan was a definitive first-rounder. He said he's a good football player, not a great football player. Everyone had him in the second round. After digesting everything I could read online, Graham Barton would have been the perfect Packer choice at 25. What did Belichick say about Barton? I also wonder how much research Belichick did. I assume the station provides him with a couple of people who fill him in on the current prospects. He might have done some prior work before he was let go by the Patriots, but that was a while back.

My takeaway is Philip knows more than Gutekunst.

Morgan was an obvious Packer for many reasons.

-weight/height within the historical preference

- 9.29 RAS

- Positional versatility

- 2,000 college football snaps.

Perhaps they took a player that could have been there at 41, but instead, they took a player they loved at 25. So what.

I don’t know more than the Packer’s GM. However, I have the cohones to question those in charge. I question the choices our government makes. I question my publisher and editor. I even question the religion I was born into. That is called analytical and abstract thinking. It used to be considered intellectual. Now it’s considered “trouble making.” Yes, I question some of the decisions made by the GM of the Green Bay Packers.

According to Acme Packing Co., Jerry Jones said Morgan was one of four guys they were considering at 24 (they then traded down to 29). I think the Packers followed their rules, pick OL guys who played a lot of tackle but have versatility to move inside. Not sure there were many of those left if they waited until 41.

I'll admit to not following college football, but Bob had him projected as a possible 1st and the only available tackle he rated higher was Guyton who seems like a tackle only.

Morgan looks like a versatile Jenkins or Tom type of guy that the Packers love.

Bob wasn't very high on him if I read his synopsis correctly.

If the Packers thought that highly of DeJean--whom Packer fans have had an unreasonable or unfair crush on--they wouldn't have hesitated picking him with their first. Certainly, they would have given up a 5th or so to trade up and get him on day 2 before the Eagles. Morgan is seen as more versatile than Barton and probably has higher ceiling/lower floor, which is what Gutes does in round 1. If Barton turns out to be a Pro Bowl center but Morgan turns out to be a very good left tackle, who wins?

We win Jake!

Great perspective piece, Bob. Hopefully the Morgan pick isn't remembered because of who the next pic was like with Creed Humphrey and TJ Watt.

Six quarterbacks, not nine, Bob.

"Given his brain injuries, odds are Rodgers' 20th season will also be short lived."

Well, that explains everything. LMAO.

Agreed with T, but we still ended up with a nice haul from that Titantic.
