Week in Review: Baker Mayfield, Packers-Bears, All-Old School Team, Sinking Steelers
Miss anything? All links inside.
What a monster day of football. This Sunday’s slate of games is as loaded as we’ve seen all season.
Hang out with fellow Go Long readers all day, all night inside the Gameday Chat. I’ll send out a fresh thread shortly before the 1 o’clock kickoff.
Until then, get set for the games right here.

We explored the magnetism and machismo of one, Baker Mayfield. That piece in full — and everything at Go Long — is accessible to paid subscribers. Those who know the quarterback best explain the animal inside. We chatted at length again with the NFL personnel man (Scot McCloughan) who recommended Mayfield to both Cleveland and Tampa Bay.
A snippet:
“His personality. It’s who he is and what he is. People want to say that’s ‘cocky.’ and that’s fine. It is! But you know what? The good ones are cocky. You don’t think Dan Marino was cocky? You don’t think John Elway was cocky? You don’t think Tom Brady was cocky? They believe in themselves. And the other players — as long as the guy’s not an asshole, which he’s not — they all gravitate toward him.
“He was a winner. He was the leader. He did stupid stuff, but then he’d come back and do some great stuff. He reminded me too much of Favre. I’m sure Dorsey was the same way. It’s the competitiveness. It’s the arm strength. It’s the, ‘I don’t give a shit. I’m going to make this throw and you can kiss my ass. If I throw a pick, so be it. I’ll come back and throw the same pass again next series and I’ll complete it.’ It’s unique. He’s not Brett Favre, don’t get me there. But he’s got arm talent and he’s got toughness. He’s got competitiveness. And the players love him.”
Also, our Go Long panel crowns this year’s class of badasses with our 5th Annual All-Old School Team.
