Tomorrow AM: Calvin Austin III's long road to the New York Giants
Here's what we've been up to.
Good afternoon! Greetings from the Outer Banks. The Go Long Fam trucked it south for a vacation. Years past, I’ve driven from Western New York, right on through the mountains of West Virginia to North Carolina at night while everyone was sleeping. That can feel something like a video game avoiding deer on the I-77, but not going to lie. It was nice catching up on an audiobook or five.
This time, our caravan of five traveled in the daylight. I can report that all kids were A+.
That doesn’t mean we’ll hit the pause button here at the site. Last week was quiet so I could finish up our next profile. We’ll keep the content humming.
Looking forward to sharing this one.
On Tuesday AM, you can read our piece on New York Giants wide receiver Calvin Austin III. We sat down for 2+ hours over dinner in New Jersey recently.
What an offseason it’s been in Giants Country. Hope is renewed. As we wrote a few weeks back, John Harbaugh and Joe Schoen hit it off over shared scars. The GM then received a new contract. This roster is suddenly chockfull of promising young talent. Jaxson Dart showed signs of being the long-term answer. The defense is loaded with pass rushers. It’s time for this team to win.
What’s missing? A spark. A player who’ll bring life to dilapidated MetLife Stadium.
As we learn, Austin — the hero of Pittsburgh’s win over Harbaugh’s Ravens in Week 18 — can be that weapon. He takes us through a wildly turbulent football life. Nobody believed in a receiver just shy of 5 foot 8. There were snubs. There was mockery. But thanks to a strong relationship with his Dad and unrelenting belief, here he is.
Calvin Austin III fully expects to break out this 2026 season.
Thank you for reading and sharing, everyone.
