Absolutely agree: “The Vikings’ other blunder was failing to grasp just how thick the bubble wrap was around McCarthy in college.”

Outstanding piece, Tyler.

We're all products of our environment, and I would enjoy seeing some sense of accountability from the Vikings organization for McCarthy's struggles.

Is it immature to refer to yourself as Nine? Sure. But can we stop to wonder why the kid seems to feel such a strong, constant need to prove himself? Did he exhibit anything like this at Michigan? In high school at either stop? Or is this a case of an immature kid working under an unusually impatient and arrogant head coach? KOC seems to think he deserves to be treated like some combination of Tom Brady and Sean McVay when his track record actually reflects someone who underachieved as a player and whose impact on winning as a coach is unclear. He seems to get credit for quarterback success but he has only succeeded with players who had already achieved or turned a corner under either McVay or Shanahan or both.

As a head coach, KOC has never been the steward of a long-term successful relationship with a quarterback. We should be exploring this with at least as much curiosity and attention as we do with McCarthy.

Dig your long-form investigative journalism, Tyler. Please keep up the good work.

The Cardinals initial ring of honor enshrined all of the team's hall of famers: except Jackie Smith. Always seemed strange to die on this hill, especially since it's now been a full FIFTY YEARS since he left. Apart from him, they've also kept it weirdly small: no Neil Lomax, OJ Anderson, Rob Moore, Larry Centers, Jim Bakken, Anquan Boldin.

Well done Ty! Didn’t realize the old man is ruining his Kid with Harrison. Real happy my team drafted Nabers. I hope Harrison Jr. reads this though and tells his old man I’m doing it my way and maybe I won’t be a hall of fame WR but I have talent and I’m taller than you! He obviously hasn’t learned how to be a man yet. What a piece though! Excited for part deuce!
