I was thinking I was done with this team and this article(s) may have pushed me over the top. BTW, I subscribed here just to read this two part article and I think I may just hang around for a while. Well done by the writer.

In John Mara's defense, he learned how to F up a team from his old man. All of the ineptness and total lack of concern for the fans is making me wonder why I follow this team. I haven't purchased a Giants Jersey since Eli's 2011 Super Bowl. I encourage all Giants fans to stop feeding the owner's bank account and send a hard and clear message by not attending the final games and to follow my lead and not purchase anything with a NYG logo. That is the only way to turn this thing around.

Incredible piece of journalism Ty. It has become very difficult to watch the Giants. And even more difficult to read how they got into this mess. BUT…I will always believe John Mara wants to win as badly as we do. Mistakes have been made and that’s why they are where they are. No one is perfect. But…we Giants fans are the most spoiled fans in sports. Only FOUR teams have won multiple Super Bowls this century. The Patriots, Steelers, Ravens and GIANTS. Not the Packers. Not the Chiefs (who waited 50 years between SBs). Not the Cowboys. Not the Saints.

Just the Patriots, Steelers, Ravens and the NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS. And yet the fans cry as if they’re the fucking Browns. Or the Lions. Yes it sucks now. But the only people who haven’t seen the Giants win a Super Bowl are under 10 years old. I was 25 before they even sniffed a Super Bowl. I’ve been lucky enough to see them win four.

The one thing that you missed about Eli was that he always gave us a reason to believe they could win even if he was fading. That happens with almost every star. It gave the Dolphins hope with a fading Marino. It gave the Chiefs hope with a fading Montana. It gave the Broncos hope with a fading Peyton. It GIVES the Packers hope with a not so fading Rodgers (one less ring than Eli). The Giants do not have anyone who gives us hope. No QB. No coach. Certainly no GM. More than anything, that is the hardest part of being a Giants fan these days.

I had my kids later in life. One of the benefits of that is having the time amd the money to do things like take them to see the team you have been rooting for since you were a boy. I looked forward to doing that before they were even born, and now they are old enough to bring them. I have yet to do it and have no plans to do it in the near future. It’s not just the losing. The Giants have lost before and I was there. It’s the arrogance of these trust fund kids playing football scout as if they were qualified to do it. I don’t know how that could get that idea into their heads. They can’t just sit back and enjoy a life most of us will never approach? Nope, they have to try and be “football men”. They ain’t. The Maras should volunteer at a soup kitchen if they feel the need for self importance.

Great two part piece. I stumbled across it and instantly paid just to try to get some clarity on the inner workings of this disaster, and it did not underwhelm. There's no doubt the Giants have been one of the worst, if not the worst team over the past 5 years. We can argue for days over what-ifs and what the mistakes were, god knows there are plenty. But now the more important question becomes how to fix it, and that's where I'm alarmed. Pretty much everyone outside this organization as well as the group of fans that are not chugging the Pepsi understand that a fresh voice is needed, that the way Mara is running the ship is not working. Yet in the face of all the evidence that this is not working, Mara just seems intent on digging in even further. Prematurely making the decision to keep Judge and Jones, and likely not looking outside the organization for a GM. Why won't he acknowledge what so clearly needs to happen? What is he holding onto? And will it ever change? Like the rest of us, I am a distressed Giants fan needlessly searching for answers, so feel free to chime in.

The common NFL fan sitting on his couch knows it makes total sense to simply "draft best player available" regardless of position. The injury rate in the NFL is 100%, drafting players that are perceived to be areas of strength should be a secondary consideration. Gettleman it seems worked double time dismissing this proven process for player procurement. Maybe one day a savvy NFL owner would let software conduct the draft, I mean, seriously, there is no shortage of examples that lots of GMs and owners have flamed out - total dumpster fires.
