Don’t Gamble (Unless responsibly)

It was time for the Detroit Lions to start winning. No way could the league’s No. 1 scoring offense at 35 points per game entering week five be stopped. Goff is better than Stafford. Everything is fine in Michigan. A trip to Foxborough is always challenging but Dan Campbell and Aaron Glenn will get this defense right against rookie QB Bailey Zappe. I will gladly take the Lions moneyline at +130. Well…? What a reality check. The Lions were bad in every phase against the Patriots. Bad bet by me (who cares), setback for the Lions. This is what studying the stats is all about. Do not let fake points per game or yards per game cloud your judgment of the two most important foundations pieces. Find your championship-caliber starting QB and build your defense. Until Detroit upgrades those areas they will not compete in the playoffs.
