I think so. He's too valuable. Even if it costs the Chiefs the No. 1 seed in the AFC, they cannot afford to lose the quarterback built for the playoff moment.
With the creativity of Andy Reid scheming up a game plan, I'd bet on Wentz winning at home against Houston. With a 2-game lead for the 1 seed, KC can't afford to test Mahomes' leg twice in 4 days. He can always start in Pittsburgh if that turns into a must win.
I'm really torn on what I'd do in this scenario, but I feel like it's simple for the Chiefs. If medical clears him, he will play. That's who he is. He wants the 1-Seed. But I agree that getting him healthy now should be the priority. I can see a world where Wentz goes out against the Texans, the team plays hard, and they come out with a win. Then Patrick could return to try and lock up against the Steelers.
Gonna be a very interesting rest of the year for the Chiefs. I'd prefer to see Patrick on the field when it ends, though.
One thing about the Lions' injuries, and especially this goes for Montgomery: they play very physical, and noticed in the second half after catches that Montgomery and LaPorta would get down low and take on defenders, over and over. It felt so obvious that it looks like something that is coached. Obviously physical is good, and it's part of who they've become. But it also makes sense that injuries will be part of that.
I personally do doubt Dan Campbell. He is a coach on the opposite end of the McDermott spectrum but he cost them a Super Bowl last year and that onside kick may have been the most boneheaded decision in quite awhile. It’s not 13 seconds but it is 12 minutes.
Id say a week off and home advantage is too precious to bench Mahomes for, after all, Carson frigging Wentz. Buffalo beat them at home November 17th. Yeah we know Mahomes shreds it in postseason road games too.
The WC round will probably mean Broncos or Chargers; frisky division rivals they barely beat by 2...and its never easy to beat division rivals 3x. E
Put Mahomes on ice? Why? The dude plays better on one ankle than 20 other NFL starting quarterbacks do on two. The Buffalo Bills look they are ready to bring a Lombardi Trophy back to Buffalo. Would love to see a pair of 0-4 Super Bowl teams play for the trophy in February. Maybe the other team will bring that trophy back to the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
