Podcast: Would you draft Jalen Carter?
Let's chat about character risks. Every team needs to draw the line somewhere. This year, Georgia's playmaking defensive tackle arrives with baggage.
No team wins a Super Bowl with a roster full of boy scouts. This is a violent sport that demands violent participants, which typically means you’re rolling the dice on questionable characters.
But where should a team draw that line?
We explore on this episode of the Go Long Podcast. Co-host Jim Monos scouted for the Eagles, the Saints and was in four draft war rooms as the Buffalo Bills director of personnel. So when one scout says that Jalen Carter “doesn’t love football,” how is that processed with the higher-ups? Those Bills had a large man who went through his own ups and downs in Marcell Dareus.
Dareus’ case runs deeper. As he detailed in our chat back in my Buffalo News days, nearly everyone close to him has died over the years. We look back at his career.

Also, if you live near Western New York, head out to Fattey Beer Company in Orchard Park next Wednesday, April 26, at 6 p.m. for a live hangout. Let’s talk draft over an IPA or two. Details.
Thanks, everyone.
On to the pod…
No. There is a trend of massive immaturity, recklessness issues with numerous Georgia players. Doesn't seem to be much adult supervision in the Georgia program. This player is going to be a heap of trouble unless someone is watching and mentoring him around the clock, 7 days per week.
While I agree with his attitude isn't comforting, he is just a kid. A spoiled kid. There is a chance he can grow up and be a man yet. I would have to consider him at 15.
