Podcast: Terminator QB or Old School Football?
There are two weeks to go, so we try to make sense of the NFL in 2021. Some teams lean on ungodly quarterback play, others party like it's 1989, some are a blend of both.
Mike Vrabel once said he’d part with a… uh… certain body part to win a Super Bowl as the Tennessee Titans head coach. Yes, some teams with Super Bowl hopes are built this way. With an old school coach we learned all about from Bob McGinn.
These teams want to bludgeon with physicality.
Then, there’s the Bills, the Bengals, the Rams. Teams looking to throw ‘n throw.
We’ve devoted quite a bit of space here at Go Long on the sport’s glorious return to its roots, from our 1st All-Old School Team to a profile on the unofficial face of this movement. Now that the playoffs are closing in, is this the sort of attack that can win a team a ring?
That’s the theme of this week’s Go Long Podcast with former Buffalo Bills director of personnel Jim Monos.
Josh Allen is playing lights out. Monos can see Buffalo getting on a roll. And it is wild that — after everything — here we all are talking about the Bills and Chiefs, again, in the AFC. But I sure would not count out those Titans, either, with Derrick Henry’s looming return.
Over in the NFC, the Packers have proven they can win both ways… and don’t sleep on those ‘Niners.
Just about every team in contention is discussed this episode.
We also delve into the art of scouting again.
