Podcast: Damar Hamlin, life and football
The sport is inconsequential. We try to make sense of a moment nobody will ever forget. And we know this: Damar Hamlin will fight.
Damar Hamlin has dreamt of kids in McKees Rocks looking up to him as a true source of inspiration. He wants them all to know there’s hope.
Now, Hamlin has the eyes of the entire country on him.
It’s still hard for any of us to comprehend what we witnessed Monday night. Here on the podcast, we try our best. This isn’t your typical 24-year-old — Hamlin sat down with Go Long in July 2021 to detail a rise full of death and despair and pain. More than half of the kids he grew up with passed away before the age of 21. It’s why Hamlin finishes conversations today with a heartfelt “I love you.”
There’s a light to be gleaned through the NFL’s most horrific hour.
Hamlin is a man who can beat this. We know that.
Longtime NFL personnel man Jim Monos and myself discuss the fight of Hamlin’s life, the sport of football and a night nobody will forget.
