OLD SCHOOL WEEK is here...
We love everything football was meant to be at Go Long. Here's what's on tap.
Good morning!
By now, you know that we enjoy football in its purest sense here at Go Long.
This profession isn’t for the weak. Despite the finest efforts of those on Park Avenue, winning games remains an exercise in blocking and tackling and guts. The NFL is the greatest form of entertainment in America because those 22 men on a field are as close as we’ll get to modern-day gladiators. There’s an inherent element of violence to the sport. Nobody’s healthy this time of year. A constellation of bruises are a guarantee each Sunday.
Some players and teams understand this, and thrive.
Others wilt.
Winter is here, so it’s once again time to celebrate all that’s bloody beautiful about the sport with “Old School Week.”
Here’s what Go Long subscribers can expect this week:
Column recapping Week 13 in the NFL. (One team specifically has been leaning into an ageless brand of football.)
2025 All-Old School Team Honorees. (Many, many dignitaries and world leaders are saying it’s the highest honor one can achieve in football.)
Podcasts. “Real Football” (with Jim Monos) and “Ty & Bob Pod” (with Bob McGinn).
Q&A with a player who epitomizes the sport’s roots.
Friday Feature: Baker Mayfield. There isn’t a quarterback in the NFL quite like the one in Tampa, Fla.
