Sean McDermott isn't talking about it. So, Go Long reached out to players who will. Here's the inside story and what it says about the team — and head coach — into 2022.
Great article! Thanks for digging into this and trying to get answers for a 3 play sequence that will haunt me forever. I would still be interested in finding out what the justification for the defensive alignment was. I have a theory that, they simply didn't have a package or play call for that scenario (no reason to rush the passer, no reason to defend deep, no reason to worry about out of bounds, no reason to worry about D holding). I think maybe because you cant implement a playcall in football like you are basketball coach drawing on a whiteboard, they simply just called their standard prevent D. I don't think I would find that a satisfying answer, but at least it would explain what is otherwise inexplicable.
The Bills finally bring in a Coach who came up through the ranks ~ has brought more credibility/stability to the Organization ~ yet somehow the media feels it is their job to create division/dissention ~ trying to break the BIG story by citing unnamed sources who "know" everything about everything. McDermott may have his flaws but I'm tired of listening to reporting that seems determined to bring him down.
I'm a life long Bills fan who has lived through way too many coaches over the years who never lasted more than 2 or 3 years. Coaching at the NFL level brings with it the constant questioning of any/every move made ~ by the media/fans/anyone who has an opinion. In my mind, McDermott & Bean have delivered a team that we as fans are so proud & excited about & have made the Bills a team we connect with ~ players want to be here ~ coaches get recognized for their accomplishments, leave for higher positions ~
Yes those "13 seconds" can be added to a long list of disappointments for Buffalo fans; it doesn't change the fact that we lost !!! I'm satisfied with the statements of both the coach and GM and I want them to be here for many years to come. I just hope the media doesn't create a side show with their questioning and jaded commentary.
I finally was able to read this 😢 Great article, but boy does it still hurt.
Great article. Worth the subscription. I canceled my subscription to the Athletic and bought this one. This is way better.
Tyler Dunne, bringing the fire! 🔥Damn, that was good. Articles like this make the subscription such a steal! Loved it!
