Hey, Jordan Poyer was right. Give breathwork a try.
Stressed out? The ex-Bills safety offered a solution that works.
Good afternoon! A quick note here while it’s on my mind…
One of my favorite stories to write last season was this profile of Buffalo Bills safety Jordan Poyer.
Our conversation was a psychedelic adventure that took more twists, more turns than I ever imagined. Poyer opened up — and then some — on how he managed to pull himself out of several extremely dark places.
Many readers could likely relate to his struggle.
Perhaps an ayahuasca retreat to Costa Rica is unrealistic for those looking to turn their own lives around, but Poyer also recommended breathwork as an ideal starting point. Buffalo’s own Christopher August has revolutionized the industry of holotropic breathwork with Poyer.
This is no paid advertisement because you know we don’t take ads here at Go Long.
I seriously cannot recommend the app mentioned in our story enough: August’s “Beats and Breath.”
The combination of music, beats and guided narration is exceptionally calming. You can feel stress leave the body, while also tapping into innate, primal energies that you don’t even know exist. All the stuff Poyer details in our story. It’s becoming part of the daily routine here. Here’s a link to download the app if you want to give it a try.
And be sure to follow everything Jordan Poyer has going on at his company: Luminate. He travels the country for breathing sessions. We’ll be hearing from him for years, I’m sure.
Looking for a book companion? Read James Nestor’s “Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art.” You’ll also start taping your mouth at night in no time.
Thanks, all.
See you all soon for Eric Wood’s Happy Hour.
