This isn’t how the Chicago Bears envisioned football in 2023 — at all.
What a cringy display of offensive football it’s been against Green Bay and Tampa Bay. Justin Fields is off to a miserable start and, lest we forget, Fields was drafted by the previous regime. New GM Ryan Poles traded out of the No. 1 pick in 2023, but he no doubt has an eye on the 2024 class. Especially at this rate.
On this episode of “The Go Long Show,” we examine this precarious quarterback situation, and several others. Desmond Ridder had his finest start to date with the Atlanta Falcons. There was a lot to love about his performance against the Green Bay Packers — especially through a clutch fourth quarter. Same for Sam Howell in Washington. Eveything Howell told Go Long before the draft is coming to life through two games. As he said then, on comebacks: “The main thing is ‘don’t get too caught up in the scoreboard.’ Don’t worry about the score. Just stick to your process and play good football. Chip away. Focus on the play. Do whatever you can to be successful that play.”
Also, the Buffalo Bills got back on track against the Raiders. A tame Josh Allen was still an effective Josh Allen. And co-host Jim Monos relives his quarterback dilemma in the spring of 2017. He sees the value in letting a mid-round pick play.
