The GM was fearless at the top of the draft. Keon Coleman was the pick — not Xavier Worthy — and, now, the 2024 Buffalo Bills need to follow his lead in the cutthroat AFC.
Ballard's rant may be the sign of a GM knowing that his window of employment may be closing with Jim Irsay. He's rolling the dice on potentially an impactful player who's a character risk. If it all crashes/burns, the next Colts GM can clean that up.
Maybe the Bills should simply get to a Super Bowl to show what a Bad ass team they are. They play the games in the NFL for a reason! Who cares that the Bills aren't afraid of the Chiefs, they actually should be, if they ever hope to emulate them.
The Bills made a bad choice trading Diggs and are now chasing it. The average rookie production of the examples you cite as potential success comparisons (Allen, Adams, Robinson, Kupp) is 54.8 catches for 727 yds and 4.5 TDs. There's accordingly a big risk that, even if this move is a positive one over the longer run, it net moves the team back this year. Sure, they still might win a SB, but this was a mistake and (notwithstanding factors like injury) it will make that goal harder to reach. I like Coleman but God bless him, the weight of expectation here - that he can both overcome relative athletic limitations and do so on an abnormally fast time line - may well be too much for him.
Great write up. I thought Worthy was the guy the Bills needed to target, and hated him ending up on Chiefs, but this take on how fearless Beane was in dealing directly with the enemy and sticking to his own blueprint without fear, got me fired up. Great job!
I like the fact that Beane remained resolute with a WR strategy that fits Josh’s greatest need: make 50/50 contested catches with physicality above the rim, especially on 3rd down and in the red zone. Still expect to see another experienced WR added before camp.
Really enjoy your writing style. Old-school!

Hey, not a bad take here. They've got a long ways to go.
Let's see if the coach takes the GM's lead.
